Pasar Malam Nite

February 24, 2006

Yesterday night pasar malam (night market) is not any ordinary pasar malam visit, at least for me. After work, I took the LRT to PJ, meet up with my hubby and we head to Sea Park, to help out in church’s pasar malam  ministry.

What is pasar malam ministry? Why we do it? emoticon

Actually, I am not so sure myself but I know the objective is to reach out to the community there. I only heard a little about it during Sunday celebration in the church. It is started by a few member in the church - twice a month during the Thursday Sea Park pasar malam. Recently, the SG (shepherd group) are asked to help out and the SG that I attend is the first group to do it emoticon

A couple of week before this, a few of us are are not so sure what to do during the pasar malam ministry. So, we got a bit carried away and came up with ideas like:

  1. Setup laptop and sell ring tones (praise songs)
  2. Get a few of us to pretend that we r sick and visit our stall, then one of us just shout "I am healed!!" and walk away happy…to capture attention from the pasar malam folks…hee hee

Well, of course the above works! did not happen…but something more interesting took place emoticon

We have a few tables setup like cafe style serving hot and cold drinks free and a singer (worship leader) entertaining there…hee hee. We are suppose to go out to the pasar malam folks, hand them a little piece of paper for them to get the free drinks and invite them to our pasar malam cafe. Unfortunately, It rained for a while emoticon and some of us thot might as well close shop la. Hmm…great faith we have eh!

But, the rain stopped shortly (I bet one of us prayed emoticon) and we went out to hunt do our job. Because of the rain, the few stalls in front of our cafe (blocking us) close shop..ha! ha! and this gives the pasar malam folks a clearer view of our cafe. Some of them were curious and slow down to look, so we took the opportunity to invite them.
"Hey Mom, got cafe in pasar malam!", said a young lady.
As for me, "Praise God! We have business!!"

Eventhough it is hot and sticky and I am still in office wear, I am glad to stand there and do my job. Felt a bit shy at first, but if it’s for God and the whole SG gang is there, nothing is too silly.

This experience also gave me a taste on how it is like for those people who stand around LRT stations handing out pamplets or doing survey. Usually, when I pass by them, I would just walk faster or say no. Next time, if I see them again, I will just take the pamplet or say "No, Thank you" cause I hope with response like that, they will not feel too bad.

I thank God and the people who organise the pasar malam ministry for this valuable experience. The feeling is great when someone actually stop, listen to you and then walk to our cafe for a drink and a chat. It’s like scoring points in a game! emoticon

For the first time…

February 23, 2006

For the first time, I am starting a personal journal - online.

I have been thinking about this for a long time, but as usual - No Action. I am just plain lazy!
So yesterday, as I finish the second last chapter of ‘Purpose Driven Life’ by Rick Warren, the writer suggest that it is good to keep a personal journal as a Christian. "OK! I am going to do it", I tell myself. At that moment, even the title for this blog came just like that….Wow!

"God…is that You?" I asked, because usually it will take me ages to come up with a title. Anyway, I am just glad that I have started already.emoticon

Now, just a few reminders for myself, in case one day my laziness take over and I forgot why I started this…

  • I believe that this journal will be a good reference, when I need to share some of my personal testimonies as a Christian.
  • I want to organise my thoughts, experiences and journey in a written format, so that when I cannot remember anything one day. I can download from here again emoticon
  • I like to read blogs, so why not I start one too emoticon

Let’s begin…
