Zoe Balik Kampung
Last weekend, three of us took a flight back to KB. The flight was delayed for 2 hours (both ways) but we were informed much earlier by Air Asia, so it was okay. Thanks to Jon Jon and SL for the free limo transfers to/fro LCCT.
We realise that this time around, only older citizen above 65 years old and those with xpress boarding are allowed to board the plane first. The rest including infant/children queue like normal. I thought earlier that we would be able to board the plane first since we are with Zoe. But, looking at the queue, almost more than 50% of travelers are with young children/babies, so maybe thats the reason that there are no special treatment for children now.
I was slightly anxious on how Zoe would survive the 55 minutes flight. As there are no baby seat available, we have to carry Zoe on our lap in the flight. I took the baby carrier with me and strap her to me, thinking that it was the best I could do for safety sake.
Zoe was bubbly and happy all the way in the flight, very busy trying to tear the magazines/instructions manual
. When the plane took off, she did not seem to realise. We gave her some water once on air, to help her clear her ear pressure. She was snoozing after a few minutes in the flight. Overall, the whole journey seems like just 10 minutes for me and after a few blinks, the pilot was announcing that we are landing…hahaha…so much for the anxiety earlier
Grandma and great Grandma was also very excited anticipating our arrival. At the arrival gate, we could already see grandma (my MIL) standing right in front trying to identify us from the crowd. We took along 2 luggages and 3 backpacks on this journey. Grandma was tickled that we even took almost 4 litre of filtered diamond water with us. It was for Zoe and we did not manage to exceed the limited weight allowed …hahaha
We stayed in Grandma’s double storey house, but ala kampung style. No water heater, no ceiling fan and pets/pests are allowed to raom the house freely. But, it was good to be home, to have Zoe taste and feel of her Daddy’s kampung and we thank MIL for installing an air cond in our room earlier - Air cond is still one of the best invention in the world!!!
We went to the happening Bazaar Ramadhan at the Stadium once we settled down. Left Zoe with grandma at home to rest. It was raining cats and dogs at the bazaar and the canopies was like almost blown apart. Apparently, it was raining like that daily during the evenings in KB for the past few days. Anyway, that did not stop us from getting out favourite ayam percik, murtabak, laksam, ondeh ondeh and other treats we loved. We head home shortly to find Zoe sleeping peacefully in the living room. MIL busy in the kitchen cooking up a storm for us and told us that Zoe was crying a while after we left. Hmm…the beginning of separation anxiety…
We had a good dinner that night, wholesome home cooked meals by Grandma and treats from ramadhan bazaar. Yummies!!!
Zoe had a chance to take bath in the baby bath basin that belong to hubby when he was born, 30 years ago. Its so nostalgic seeing her in the seasoned bath basin. We gotta do it the kampung style, boil water manually and took a small coffee cup to pour water on her….hahaha
The 2 nights we spend in Grandma house, there was blackout during the evenings. Hubby said that did not happen for many years already, seems like Zoe’s presence is electrifying!!! Lol….
We went to visit great Grandma in Tumpat on day 2, this time it is a real kampung house. Great grandma cooked nasi pulut with curry chicken and rojak buah for us. She is one strong lady, at her ripe old age, she still manage to cook for all of us. She told me to learn to cook the pulut as it is easy and hubby’s favourite. Hubby told me pulut is not his favorite but his sis’s and great Grandma got it mixed up, age is really catching up with her. Anyway, we are all just so amuse at great Grandma’s ways and her numerous stories telling. All of us snooze off at the living area while listening to great Grandma stories after a hearty lunch.
It was the first time great Grandma see Zoe and she remarked that Zoe is "Anak Cina, mata kecik sikit!". Great Grandma family are a mixture of races which sparks her to said so, even herself is half nyonya. Everybody just guessing at who Zoe looks like more and after seeing all the ancestor’s photos on the wall, I think Zoe looks like her great Grandpa…hahaha!
Anyway, we will be seeing great Grandma again in another 2 weeks in KL as she will be flown down to attend hubby’s cousin sister wedding.
Zoe was surely blessed during this trip. Everywhere we brought her, she was given ang pow (red packets) by relatives as most of them is seeing her for the 1st time.
Zoe’s first tooth also sprouted out during this trip. Finallyyy…to symbolise her roots!? HeHeHe…
The trip felt a bit short for 3 days/2 nights and I can see that MIL was heavy hearted to part with Zoe. I never see MIL planted so many kisses and hugs on anyone before except for Zoe…HaHaHa!
If everything goes well, we are planning for Zoe’s 1st birthday party, so MIL will be over here in KL for the celebration and she would definitely have time together with Zoe soon.
Well, the next trip for the 3 of us back would be CNY 2008. By then, Zoe probably will be toddling around already…gotta figure out how to stop her and her cousin (SIL son) from chasing and bullying the cats in Grandma house…yikes!!!
