Potty Trained!

August 13, 2009

Zoe have actually reach the potty trained milestone a couple of weeks ago and I have been trying not to talk too much about it. This is because I always hear from other parents that once we mentioned or praise the kids about this milestone, the reverse happens and it is gonna be messy.

The truth is, I never really put in a lot of effort to train her except for buying a few training pants, potty and cute little girl’s panties in preparation for this milestone. This inefficient Mommy did not even conclusively realised that Zoe is already potty trained but Grandma and Grandpa pointed it out clearly to Mommy when they were taking care of Zoe for a week.

All I did was to tell her play school teacher to start the potty training some months ago and specifically also mentioned not to force, reprimand or scold her in the process. Just let her learned slowly until she get it. Ok..Ok…Ocassionally (very few times indeed), she did accidentally pee on the floor at home and once at a restaurant when we let her go diaperless, and I did raised my voice a little and show a little dissapointment. But, that’s all!

It happens just like that and I did find myself pondering, "That’s it! potty trained already?…Bye bye diapers?". Just a reality check probably because I expected this process to be more painful and longer initially. Can I consider myself lucky that there are not much pain and tears in the process? okokok…hahaha…enough of self contemplating already!

For now, we can actually kissed diapers good bye for the day, but night time we still put the diaper on for her. She sleeps like a baby (of course!) at nite and will pee on her bed accidentally. There are a couple of times that she actually woke me up in the wee hours to pee and inside me, I actually dread it because of my much needed sleep….and I thought sleepless nights was long gone many months ago!

Somehow, I felt that the way her play school teacher teaches her to request to pee is …ermm…formal! LOL!
It goes like these…

Zoe: Mommy! I want to pass urine!
Zoe: Mommy! I want to pass motion!

but at home, I actually asked her, "Zoe, you wanna shee shee?"
Then she will nod if she wanted or reply, "I shee shee already!"

I have actually tested her a couple of times and she can actually hold her urine when she started to indicate she wanted to pee in the car, right up till we reach car park, took the lift and all the way back home. She actually still manage to take out her shoes, put it back on the rack….run to the potty, pull down her pants and proceed to pee….phew! no leaking at all emoticon

I need to actually be more brave to let her go out diaperless more, even on longer trips. Sometimes, I still put the diaper on for her when I anticipate to go out longer and toilet are either dirty or not convenient.

If you happen to read this, when is the right age/time to do night potty training? (I sure cannot rely on the school teacher on this now!)
